Can cold weather cause hives
Although it may sound strange, but it is possible to get hives during the cold weather. Doctor refers this as a cold Urticaria. However, sometimes it is also called as cold allergy or cold hives. Some forms of cold utricaria may not have a positive ice cube test, which includes Delayed cold Urticaria, cold dependent dermatographism, cold induced cholinergic urticaria and localized cold reflex urticaria. When the person is diagnosed for cold urticaria, it may be necessary to look for the causes of the diseases. However, it may include blood tests to evaluate for autoimmune diseases, cancers, infection, and many other diseases. Moreover, medicines such as penicillin, birth control pills, and certain anti fungal medication have reported to cause a cold urticaria. Treatment of hives in Cold weather (Cold Urticaria)Avoiding the cold environment particularly swimming in the cold water is an excellent way to prevent symptoms in people with cold urticaria or hives. Remember, a person with a cool weather hives should not swim alone. However, it is better to avoid cold foods such as ice cream and cold beverages. Moreover, patient with sever symptoms of cold urticaria should carry an injectable epinephrine and wear a Medic Alert Bracelet. In some of the cases, symptom may decrease with the use of various antihistamines, such as cyproheptadine. Consult your doctor as soon as you see any of the symptoms of the cold weather hives i.e. cold urticaria. Moreover, try to take all the necessary preventive measure to eliminate the disease.
