  1. Medications particularly non-steroidal anti – inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) which include aspirin and antibiotics result in hives.
  2. Foods- the common types of food, which is known to trigger hives, include nuts, citrus fruits, Shellfish, food additives, eggs, wheat products, and chocolate.
  3. Infections – the infections includes influenza, the common cold, glandular fever, hepatitis B and many more.
  4. War Zones – Dermatologic diseases have been responsible for the troop morbidity, combat ineffectiveness, and poor morale. Dermatitis, benign moles, hives, and the cancerous skin lesions are the most common among the military personnel who were evacuate from combat zones for ill-defined dermatologic diseases.
  5. Intestinal Parasite

  9. Floods and Hurricanes – After floods, the surrounding area people usually suffer from skin disease or disorder i.e. hives. However, the construction workers are also likely to suffer from the skin diseases.
  10. Sunlight Exposure but it is less common

  17. Chronic infections such as viral hepatitis, sinus infections, and the urinary tract infections.

Once the cause of hives is determined, one should move towards treating it. However, most of the hives do not require any medical treatment but the chronic hives should not be underestimated in terms of treatment. It is always better to prevent the skin condition than to treat it.
